Did You Just Laugh?

The Bible is full of one-liners that cut to the quick, and Genesis 18:15 is one of those. “……No, but you did laugh.”

Sarah had denied laughing to herself when God told her that she would indeed bear a child. Based on her age, she reasoned herself too old even though God had told her, “Is anything too difficult for the Lord?”

Sarah’s response reminds me of my PreKr’s when they say, “I didn’t do it!” when I know full well that they did!

Did you catch that? “Sarah laughed to herself.” She didn’t have to laugh out loud for God to hear her.

How many times have you said, “Well, at least I didn’t say it?” I’ve been guilty of that one!

Even when we “don’t say it,” there’s One who still hears it – God. The Bible says, “Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, You know it all.” Psalm 139:4

If you doubt God today in your thoughts, His response is the same to you as it was to Sarah, “Is anything too difficult for the Lord?” In case you’re wondering, the answer is “NO!”

When thoughts of doubt creep into your mind, and they will remind yourself, “Nothing, absolutely nothing is too difficult for God!”

“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me. The LORD will accomplish what concerns me; Your loving kindness, O LORD, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.” Psalm 138:7-8

  1. I’ve also heard Pre-K students celebrate 🎉 their accomplishments by saying. “I did it!”

Like you said, in God’s power everything is possible. With Him behind it, we can “thrive like we’re four or five.”

    Great post, Deb. Welcome back!

      1. I shared something while you were gone that referred back to a post you wrote about godly joy. The post is called “Turning the Key” from December 30. Please read it if you have a moment. God Bless.

  2. God does indeed know our innermost thoughts. Although it is something we know we intermittently have to be reminded of these truth to be brought to the forefront of our thoughts and thank you for this Deb.
    Blessings 💙

  3. ““Sarah laughed to herself.” She didn’t have to laugh out loud for God to hear her.” Huh. I know he knows my thoughts, but I’d never thought of this while I read this story in the Bible. Zoiks.

Ever since I wrote my latest post, I’ve been catching my own thoughts and attitudes more than usual. LOL. God certainly is holding me to my own message. I’ve confessed judgmental thoughts many times in the last few days, or bad attitudes about circumstances, or lack of faith. I’m glad he’s patient and faithful to keep teaching me.

Your post confirms what God seems to be teaching me lately. 🙂
